Cry Gaia Journal: June 2011

  • Age of Conan:
    • The game switches to free-to-play on 1st July 2011 as “Age of conan: Unchained” (instead of “Age of Conan: Unrated”) (source). A new trailer has also been made available here. The House of Crom and the Tier 4 Raids are scheduled for “the last quarter of the year” (source).

GAME INFORMATION

  • On 31st May, Joel Bylos posted his first blog entry entitled “Creating a world between the cracks in reality“.
    • He gave some examples of how objects from everyday’s life can be used in The Secret World. Besides burning zombies with gas cans, the player will be able to use “a vacuum cleaner scrawled with arcane symbols to perform a temporary exorcism” or to trap “a wraith by chasing it through mirrors and then finally tricking it into entering the projected image of a mirror”.
    • The game is designed to make the player feel like it’s reality. “This means using the Yellow Pages to find a local business, taking phonecalls on your cellphone or just logging in to a pc to check email. All of these things are possible in the Secret World and each mechanic is designed to make you feel as though you are tackling problems the way that you would in the real world.”

  • Next week at EA Showcase in San Francisco, a dungeon of TSW will be demoed in live (source). Besides, Funcom tweeted it will present TSW at GamesCom 2011 (17-21 August in Cologne, Germany) and at PAX Prime 2011 (26-28 August in Downtown Seattle, Washington, USA). GamesCom 2011 is not open to public on 17th August.

Innsmouth Academy

  • TSWonline.de received information here from Waldgeist, the German Community Manager, about Funcom’s plans regarding the server structure. As Mikeko summarized here

Funcoms new “dreamworld server technology” (which isn’t ready yet) maybe allows a few things:

    • The servers will probably be separated by language.
    • PvE / PvP and RP gamers will use the same server. For example: all German players – regardless their play stile – will use one server.
    • Each player can set a flag with his preferred play stile – PvE / PvP and RP – and each time he is entering a region (London etc.) he will be transferred to an instance only populated with players having the same flag.
    • PvP battlegrounds, group actions, arg content etc. will be used by all players together regardless of the flag match.
    • Funcom hopes that this could be a solution to under populated server, imbalanced factions etc.

If this will be ready at the release of TSW isn’t known yet … it depends on if and how fast the devs will get this tech to work.

  • Lead Content Designer Joel Bylos (aka Nusquam) and Lead Designer Martin Bruusgaard (aka Snow) popped into the DDCG forums. Joel explained “there are specific places in the game where light/darkness are used as gameplay elements and you will need to bring a light source (or find one)” (source). It will also be possible to lead mobs to their own minefield (source). About the appearance of children in the game, Joel said there will be “no children as playable characters. No. As NPCs is a different story. Children have a very significant role to play” (source). Joel Bylos’s posts Martin Bruusgaard’s posts
  • In his blog Creating the world – Part one, Joel Bylos alluded to a sabotage mission targeting a pumping station. He also explained that action missions will be directive and investigation missions will be freeform. while sabotage mission will stand between the first two.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Xen of Onslaught is a guild focusing on PvP but also taking part in the other aspects of the game, particularly PvE (source). They are present in Aion, Guild Wars, League of Legends, Warhammer and World of Warcraft. They intend to play TERA, TSW and SWTOR. They haven’t decided yet their alignment in The Secret World. Announcement xoohq.com

  • The Cry Gaia Journal celebrated its first anniversary. It was started in June 2010 as the “Templar Journal” and was written for the members of the Templar Alliance only. Then, its readership has been expanded to all Templars. Over time, the website “Order of the Temple” where it was published has been replaced by TemplarOrder.net. And, as the Templar Order launched an Interfaction section on 23rd October 2010 and no confidential information was in the Templar Journal, it was decided to make it available to any person interested in TSW whatever his/her alignment. On 16th December 2010, as Vengeful-frog was recruited by Cry Gaia Network (CGN), the Templar Journal merged with CGN and lost the word “Templar”. Because the Journal began to be translated in several languages, it was renamed “Cry Gaia Journal” in June 2011 to make sure there won’t be ambiguity about where the original version comes from. Editions of the pre-CGN era: Regular editions, Special events and Interviews.
  • The Protean Union is primarily Illuminati. However, Templars and Dragon are accepted too. The members are encouraged to create their own sub-group, the Protean Union serving “as an umbrella organization for players who wish to form a group without expending the time and resources to establish a cabal of their own.” How they will proceed to make their cabal be multi-factional has not be explained yet. Announcement proteanunion.com
  • The Protean Union announced here they launched two contests open to the whole TSW community. The first one is made of ten questions. Answering them correctly grants points allowing the cabal member to promote more quickly through the ranks of the guild. The second contest consists in being the first to find the guild’s hideout. The prize is a $25 gift certificate to the Arkham Bazaar.

CABALS

CABALS

  • Excision is The Exodus Syndicate’s new name. As a reminder, this cabal is led by Lexion, focuses on PvP and makes some PvE. Members are expected to be mature. The guild is also present in SWTOR. Announcement excisiongaming.com

CABALS

  • The 7th Legion is led by Enoch Price. It is a mature cabal RPing as a “paramilitary group of demon hunter/killers”. It is open to both casual and hardcore players. It will do PvP, raiding, light RP and ingame events. It intends to be a close-knit cabal “where enjoying the game is the foremost goal”. Announcement the7th.guildlaunch.com
